Alex Walsh Will Return to Virginia For Fifth Year of Eligibility

Alex Walsh has led the University of Virginia to four consecutive NCAA Championships. The Cavaliers have gone from never winning a team title to a dynasty.

Walsh wants to make sure she is around for as much of the dynasty as possible.

She posted on social media on Monday that she will take the extra year of eligibility offered by the NCAA for the COVID-19 year, giving her a fifth year with the Cavaliers.

“Goodbyes are hard … good thing I get one more year to practice mine … #fifthyear,” Alex Walsh posted on Instagram.

Alex Walsh won the 200 individual medley, 400 IM and 200 breaststroke at the NCAA Championships and was on three (200 freestyle, 400 medley and 400 freestyle) winning relays.

She won the 200 IM and 400 IM for the third time at NCAAs. But she added a first ever title in the 200 breaststroke.

She will continue to team up with her sister Gretchen Walsh, who also won three individual titles. Plus Olympian Claire Curzan will be back with Virginia after taking an Olympic training redshirt.

Needless to say, Virginia will be the team to beat once again.
