Olympic Relay Champion Freya Anderson ‘Unlikely’ To Compete At Next Week’s British Trials

Olympic and European relay champion Freya Anderson says it’s “unlikely” she’ll compete at next week’s British trials in London after being diagnosed with glandular fever.

The 23-year-old, who is coached by Dave McNulty at Bath Performance Centre, was diagnosed at the start of the year and has since been focused on recovery.

Anderson, who swam the prelims of the mixed medley relay in Tokyo before the British quartet went on to win gold, hasn’t as yet made a definitive decision and will leave it to the last minute.

She is the fastest entry into the 100m and 200m freestyle but her absence wouldn’t mean Anderson doesn’t make the team for Paris 2024 with British Swimming having discretionary picks.

Anderson, who has also won world and Commonwealth medals, is a vital part of the women’s 4×1 and 4×2 relays that have qualified for the Games.
